iPhone 6S, 6S Plus pre-bookings miss expectations in India

Apple’s new iPhones might have not reached the expected booking targets for the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. According to a report by The Times of India, the company’s aggressive sales strategy in India may have backfired as booking for the new smartphones ave fallen short of expectations.

The report points out that pre-bookings for the devices in India have only risen by just 10-15 percent, compared to last year’s models. The reason for this case is believed that buyers expect lower prices online once the phone becomes widely available.

In conversation with The Times of India, the chief executive officer of a leading consumer electronics chain who didn’t want to be named stated, “Almost a couple of thousand potential customers who we had reached out for pre-bookings said they would be in a wait-and-watch mode since they feel prices online would crash two-three weeks after the launch just ahead of Diwali (in November).”

Reportedly, many retail chains said they were forced to reach out to customers for pre-bookings, unlike the previous year when demand outstripped supply. He pointed out that during the current online festive sales, the biggest discounts were on older Apple products among mainstream brands.

According to an earlier report, Apple said it had sold more than 13 million iPhone 6s and 6s Pluses during their first weekend of availability in 12 markets, setting a record for its marquee product.
